The Biblical Remix – Superwoman

The Biblical Remix – Superwoman

Ruth 2:1-18 – http://bit.ly/biblicalremixsuperwoman

After becoming a widow, Ruth left her hood and moved with Naomi, her mother-in-law, to a place (Bethlehem) and a people (Israelites) she did not know.  Because she was a hard worker she went to the fields to pick up leftover grain to provide for the home.

While working in the hot sun, she got the hook-up with the landowner Boaz because he heard about how she was taking care of her mother-in-law.

She worked until the evening and was able to bring home  about 5 gallons of beaten barley, which is a huge amount for one day’s gleaning.

As she shared with Naomi about the day’s events this Alicia Keys song played in the background:

“Even when I’m a mess, I still put on a vest, with an “S” on my chest, Oh yes, I’m a Superwoman…”

Reflection:

Although she was a foreigner and a widow, Ruth trusted in the God of Israel and honored her mother-in-law by taking care of her. She didn’t think it was beneath her to work as a gleaner (socially equivalent to a modern day beggar).

Against the odds, would you be willing to trust God to provide in your situation?

The Biblical Remix – Roll Deep

The Biblical Remix – Roll Deep

Judges 16:1-21 – http://bit.ly/biblicalremixrolldeep

Delilah was an around the way girl who had it going on. And Samson fell hard for her.  However being a true playa he never gave up the secret of his great strength.

The Philistine big wigs made a financial proposal to Delilah to deceive Samson and find out his secret.

It took her a minute to get that info but after much bed talk, cunningness and nagging, Delilah got Samson to confess.  This would lead to Samson’s downfall.

As the Philistines carried the weak Samson out of the bedroom, Delilah counted her money. In the background this Adele song communicated Delilah’s heart:

“We could have had it all, Rolling in the deep, You had my heart inside your hand…”

Reflection:

Just because people roll with you, does not mean they would roll deep to the end. Samson in his lust/affection for Delilah allowed himself to be blinded to the hustle taking place all around him.

Be very careful. Do not place  your treasure amongst those who cannot value it. It could cost you everything.

The Biblical Remix – Walks With Me

Luke 24:13-32 – http://bit.ly/biblicalremixwalkswithme

A few days after Jesus was crucified on the cross and died, two of his disciples were walking towards a village named Emmaus.  While they were walking and talking, a stranger rolled up into their conversation and asked them why they were sounding so sad. In amazement they broke down all the bochinche (gossip/info) about Jesus of Nazareth and how he was a Prophet and how they had hoped he would have been the redeemer of Israel.

What they didn’t know was the stranger was Jesus himself having already resurrected from the dead.  They saw and spoke with him but their eyes did not notice him.

While walking Jesus then schooled them by teaching about the Christ through the Old Testament scriptures.

During a meal break the eyes of the two men were opened and they realized it was Jesus.  Then Jesus bounced from their sight.

Full of awe the two men shared how when they were on the road their hearts felt like fire when Jesus had talked with them.

As they shared, this Kanye West hook was playing in the background:

“Jesus Walks, God showed me the way but the devil tryin to break me down, Jesus Walks With Me…”

Reflection:

It is in the scriptures that Jesus is revealed as the son of God and as the Savior of humanity. Even when our faith is lacking, Jesus doesn’t see it as a difficult thing to show up in our circumstances to reveal Himself and to encourage us.

Let not your heart be troubled. The God who created the whole universe has you on His mind.  Look closely and see how He is working in/around your life. May your eyes be opened to see Him in a new way today.

The Biblical Remix – Hotstepper

The Biblical Remix – Hotstepper

1 Samuel 18:10-12 – http://bit.ly/biblicalremixhotstepper

David’s artistic skills with the harp were a great comfort to King Saul.  Whenever the king was anxious/tormented in his mind, David would play music and the king would be tranquilo.

After David killed Goliath, the people in town started giving David mad props.  When King Saul heard the people speak better of David than the king, Saul became very jealous.  He was so jealous that while David was killing it on the harp in the castle, King Saul took a javelin at two different times and threw it at David to kill him.

Each time the javelin was in flight, David stepped up out of the way.

As David walked away this Ini Kamoze chorus was playing in the background:

“Here comes the hotstepper, murder, I’m the lyrical gangster…”

Reflection:

Even when your persecutors do you harm, there is no need to take vengeance for yourself.  David had every right to pick up the javelin both times and throw it back at Saul.  But he didn’t.  God’s providence and protection were with David.

Do you bless those who persecute you?  Or do you act as indignant as they do?  Check your heart and your motives.  Let us grow in righteousness and humility.

The Biblical Remix – Wasn’t Me

The Biblical Remix – Wasn’t Me

Mark 14:66-72 – http://bit.ly/biblicalremixwasnotme

While the chief priests were trying to find false testimony against Jesus so they could put him to death, Peter was chilling outside in the courtyard waiting.

One of the servant girls looking at Peter blew up his spot saying he was one of Jesus’ peeps.  Peter denied it and moved away towards the gate.  Another girl saw Peter and blew up his spot again claiming he was down with Jesus.  Again Peter denied it.  Afterward when a group of people later called him out as being down with Jesus, Peter started cursing and swearing at them it wasn’t so.

In the background the reggae artist Shaggy was singing this chorus:

“It wasn’t me…It wasn’t me…It wasn’t me.”

Reflection:

You cannot deny your true character in the way God designed you.  When you follow the teachings and miracles of Jesus it sets you apart and makes you so unique others will notice it.

Do not be ashamed of Jesus or the Gospel as it is the power of God at work, saving everyone who believes.

The Biblical Remix – Family Ties

The Biblical Remix – Family Ties

Numbers 27:1-11 – http://bit.ly/biblicalremixfamilyties

With no father or brothers alive to accept their inheritance, the five daughters of Zelophehad rolled up on Moses to make sure they got their piece of the Promised Land. In front of the whole congregation they waxed knowledge about why they deserved a possession amongst their uncles.

After Moses took this matter up with God, the daughters were rightfully awarded their inheritance.

As all five daughters walked away, this Sister Sledge song was playing in the background:

“We are family, I got all my sisters with me, We are family, Get up everybody and sing”

Reflection:
The daughters of Zelophehad had faith in the promise God gave to them and the children of Israel about their promised land. Their faith was so strong they spoke up and out to obtain that promise.

What promises has God spoken over your life? Do you believe them? Are you willing to fight for them?

In the background this song from was Drake playing:

“Oh you fancy huh, You you fancy huh, Oh you fancy huh, Nail done, Hair done, Everything did”

The Biblical Remix – My Baby Back

The Biblical Remix – My Baby Back

Hosea 3:1-3 – http://bit.ly/biblicalremixmybabyback

Although Gomer was married to Hosea and had three kids with him, she was still getting busy with some other dude. Having been estranged, God told Hosea to go back and get his wife. Hosea actually has to pay a small amount of money to get his wife back.

While talking with her, he breaks it down that it will just be about the two of them from now on.

In the background this song from Guy was playing:

“Let’s chill, And let’s settle down, That’s what I wanna do, Just me and you…”

The Biblical Remix – Secrets

The Biblical Remix – Secrets

Judges 16:4-20 – http://bit.ly/biblicalremixsecrets

Having been enticed with an offer of over a thousand dollars by the Philistine rulers, Delilah ran a scheme on her unsuspecting new boyfriend Samson.  While they were chilling in her room, she ran her fingers through his hair while asking him the secret to his great strength.

In the background this Alicia Keys song was playing:

“I won’t tell your secrets.  Your secrets are safe with me, I will keep your secrets, Just think of me as the pages in your diary”

The Biblical Remix – Slugging

The Biblical Remix – Slugging

Proverbs 13:4 – http://bit.ly/biblicalremixslugging

As the King was spitting knowledge to his son, he broke down how the hard worker will be rewarded richly.  He then contrasted that with the lazy person who although he may want things, that lazy sluggish person will never get it due to his laziness.

As an audio aide the King played this Bruno Mars song on his White iPhone 4:

“Today I don’t feel like doing anything, I just wanna lay in my bed…Today I swear I’m not doing anything, Nothing at all…”
