The Biblical Remix – Hotstepper

1 Samuel 18:10-12 – http://bit.ly/biblicalremixhotstepper

David’s artistic skills with the harp were a great comfort to King Saul.  Whenever the king was anxious/tormented in his mind, David would play music and the king would be tranquilo.

After David killed Goliath, the people in town started giving David mad props.  When King Saul heard the people speak better of David than the king, Saul became very jealous.  He was so jealous that while David was killing it on the harp in the castle, King Saul took a javelin at two different times and threw it at David to kill him.

Each time the javelin was in flight, David stepped up out of the way.

As David walked away this Ini Kamoze chorus was playing in the background:

“Here comes the hotstepper, murder, I’m the lyrical gangster…”

Reflection:

Even when your persecutors do you harm, there is no need to take vengeance for yourself.  David had every right to pick up the javelin both times and throw it back at Saul.  But he didn’t.  God’s providence and protection were with David.

Do you bless those who persecute you?  Or do you act as indignant as they do?  Check your heart and your motives.  Let us grow in righteousness and humility.
