Morning Leaders – Influence
Morning Leaders. All Leaders have Followers. Take careful inventory of ALL you influence through your leading. Your reach may be greater than you realize.
Who is Carly Fiorina?
Have you ever heard of Carly Fiorina? She was the first woman to lead a Fortune 20 Company when she became CEO of Hewlett-Packard in 1999.
Below are some quotes Carly Fiorina stated in a Stanford University business podcast on iTunes U as part of their “Business Leaders and Entrepreneurs Series”:
“Leadership – see possibilities & seize possibilities”
“Focus on the possibilities, not the problems”
“Everybody is afraid of something”
“The essence of entrepreneurs (and business) is risktaking.”
“Vision has to overcome the status quo as well as the natural fear people have”
“Leadership is about changing the order of things. It’s about making a positive difference.”
“Leadership is a choice. A choice to make a positive difference.”
“You are in a century where anything is possible. You must make the choice to be a leader.”
“There is a difference between management and leadership. Management is the production of acceptable results within known constraints and conditions. Leadership is all about changing the order of things.”
“Change is difficult and sometimes dangerous because people resist and are afraid.”
“Leadership drives change.”
Morning Leaders – Silence?
Morning Leaders. Are you prone to cultivating times of silence? No iPod. No TV. No YouTube. Just silence. It is deafening. Consider daily finding it.
Morning Leaders – Justified
Morning Leaders. You are fearfully and wonderfully made by an Almighty and Powerful God. He is the one that justifies you. Your worth comes solely from Him.
Morning Leaders. Do the books and authors you read challenge you to walk outside of your comfort zone? If not, you may want to include some new reading material.
Morning Leaders – Accountability
Morning Leaders. Who are you accountable to? Who has the right to speak into your life to correct you? If your answer is no one, you are already in danger.
The Wisdom of Mahatma Gandhi
What is your favorite quote from Mahatma Gandhi? These are mine:
“Be the change you want to see in the world.”
“We must become the change we want to see.”
“Whenever you are confronted with an opponent, conquer him with love.”
“Nobody can hurt me without my permission.”
“There is nothing that wastes the body like worry, and one who has any faith in God should be ashamed to worry about anything whatsoever.”
“I like your Christ. I do not like your Christians. Your Christians are so unlike your Christ.”
“Nonviolence is a weapon of the strong.”
“An eye for an eye ends up making the world blind.”
“My imperfections and failures are as much a blessing from God as my successes and talents and I lay them both at his feet.”
“The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others.”
“You can chain me, you can torture me, you can even destroy this body, but you will never imprison my mind.”
“Men often become what they believe themselves to be. If I believe I cannot do something, it makes me incapable of doing it. But when I believe I can, then I acquire the ability to do it even if I didn’t have it in the beginning.”
“The difference between what we do and what we are capable of doing would suffice to solve most of the world’s problems.”
“Almost everything you do will seem insignificant”
Irrelevancy?
Church is not irrelevant. Perhaps you have never really experienced the beauty and power of God’s Church.
Dr. Lamar West Quotes
While looking through my cell phone notes, I found these quotes by Dr. Lamar West, the President of the American Bible Society. I am sure I read them in some newspaper/magazine article in January 2009.
“Unless we reduce Biblical illiteracy, the Church has little hope of influencing culture or carrying out its mission to transform lives.”
“It’s all about global Scripture ministry – to get people engaged with God’s Word.”
“I’m totally dependent on God’s help to get people involved and faithfully execute our mission.”
